Ack. Multiple queries question. Did I screw up?
Finished the novel, started querying about two weeks ago. Sent out six queries that first go (I’d just read The Sell Your Novel Tool Kit and that seemed like a good number, and used agentquery.com to find agents who might be interested in my book). A week later, one agent (Tina Wexler from ICM) requested the first fifty pages. Of course I sent it.
Since two weeks seems like the time most of them will respond in, according to the book, I decided to send out another six queries today. I heard back from another agent (Sara Crowe from Harvey Klinger). She wanted the whole book, via email, which I sent….but looking at the Harvey Klinger web site again, I see this statement:
Always let us know if you are making multiple queries to other agents.
Er, I didn’t know that. That’s not common protocol among them is it? But now I wonder if I should have informed her that another agent had a partial? I thought you just told them when more than one agent needed the full ms? Anyone have any sort of experience with agencies that make this request?
