Hot Boxes and Cooling Fans

Commenta 21st November , 2009
I put it here so it was visible in case anybody wanted to take advantage / try out Aldi stores Thursday special for 26th November. My HD box runs very hot and the power supply popped once due to this so I use a Heath Robison affair of having a PC fan sitting on top of the box plugged into my Buffalo HD drive fan out which spins up the fan when the box is on timer.

Aldi’s seems to have determined that netbook users have similar problems so they are flogging three fan base units which have a USB hub built in for £7-99. Clearly the power for the fans must come from the USB in and since sat PVRs in the hobbyist market have these then when your box is on timer it’s going to spin the fans up and keep it cool. A more elegant solution than the large fan I place on top of my Clarke Tech – which keeps it nicely cool. Foot print being the same.

It’s the lower picture.

These specials sell like hot cakes so as long as you don’t all go to the store I will be heading to on Thursday we’ll be fine….

Aldi’s specials seem to go out across the same week across Europe, they have it in Ireland as well on Thursday and I expect it’s available throughout.
