So I travelled, stopping ever and again, in great strides of a thousand years or more, drawn on by the mystery of the earth’s fate, watching with a strange fascination the sun grow larger and duller in the westward sky, and the life of the old earth ebb away…
These words marked the passing of the man known only as The Time Traveller as he sailed across the span of the future of earth and into its final years.
First published in 1895, The Time Machine by Herbert George (H.G.) Wells is a blueprint for science fiction and horror that persists to this day: underneath the science and the theories that attract a reader’s mind, there is an underlying story of a person who struggles with the question that burns in the heart of every man: what does it all mean?
Well, now we have a chance to find out. Northern Frights Publishing is looking for stories inspired by The Time Machine. Stories that delicately reach into our past. Stories that boldly stride into the future. And everything in between. Send us your stories of paradoxes and contradictions, show us what happens when we mess with our timelines or create new ones. Take us to the edge of the dying earth millions of years in the future. Show us its birth. Most importantly, though, show us the people affected when we rip through the walls of the fourth dimension.
Publication Date: Early 2010.
Particulars:
We’re looking for stories up to 8,000 words. We’ll consider longer prose, but it needs to be something extra special for us to consider it. Unpublished work is preferred, but please query if you have a previously published work you think will fit the theme of this anthology. We promise not to discriminate because your story has been around the block once or twice.
Payment:
Payment is $0.01US (One Cent) per word up to $50.00, and one contributor copy, paid on publication through Paypal. NFP is looking for one time worldwide rights to print your story within the context of the anthology, and all rights to the stories will remain with the authors.
Format:
Please send send all submissions in RTF format and titled: THE TIME MACHINE "Your Story Title – Your Name – Word Count". All stories should have contact info and word count in the top left hand side on the first page. No headers or footers please. Also no manual indents or double returns. Double spaced in a nice, readable font works perfect. Please include a little bio and introduce yourself when you send your story in, because we love to hear from you!
Submissions should be sent to nfpsubmissions@gmail.com
