The title sounds almost sexual, but it’s definitely less fascinating…
Since launching WooThemes almost two weeks ago now, we’ve enjoyed an unpredictable ride in terms of our users’ expectations, eliminating the gremlins in our system, whilst still trying to make money as we figure everything out. And generally I can say that we are ecstatic about the growth we’ve managed to produce since switching to WooThemes (from Premium News), as sales are looking strong and our systems (and processes) are running stronger than ever.
One of our main advantages however has been the ability to update our themes and eliminate gremlins on the go. I know this concept as agile development and I can assure you that this isn’t a groundbreaking way of running an online business; but this is the first time that we’ve been able to really leverage it in our favour. The greatest thing about this, is that we didn’t plan to have this benefit / ability and when we started using the new system, we just stumbled onto it.
With the system we previously used, we didn’t have any (efficient) way of notifying users that we had updated theme files, nor could we give them secure access to the files. So the only way to give users this was by using an on-demand process where users would request the files when needed; and as you can expect this wasn’t a fun situation to administer…
But with our new user management system in place, users get lifetime access to the themes that they have purchased, which means we only need to update the theme files and post a message on the forums; and the users would get the new themes. From an administration perspective this has saved us a lot of time, with the added benefit being that our themes are now better than ever (considering we’ve been able to respond to bug reports - and fixed the theme in question - within a couple of hours).
So this proves that not every success story can be planned for in full, as this whole situation has been a by-product of our ideas, innovation and passion going into the launch of WooThemes. I have to admit that it’s a great feeling to know that we’re improving our business, website, backend, themes etc every single day, as ultimately our users are the beneficiaries of those improvements.
